I Am Sick — What Now?
“The LORD sustains him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health.”
Psalm 41:3 (ESV)
Illness places you in a strange place — between the fear of what may come, the waiting for a diagnosis, the fatigue that no longer leaves you, sometimes the shame of being a burden to those who love you.
You can and must pray for healing; God heals, and He still heals today. But Psalm 41 promises something humbler and more stable: the LORD sustains him on his sickbed. He is there. When you do not have the strength to pray long sentences, this verse is enough as a prayer. You do not have to earn His presence by your bravery — He has already promised it.
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick.
James 5:14-15 (ESV)
Who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases.
Psalm 103:3 (ESV)
But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5 (ESV)
