To doubt is not the opposite of faith; it is often its path. Thomas said: “unless I see, I will not believe” — and Jesus did not respond by excluding him from the disciples. He came toward him, held out His pierced hands, and welcomed him in his resistance.
Your doubt does not disqualify you. On the contrary, it may be the very place where Christ draws closer to you. Do not be alarmed if you find yourself one evening with questions larger than your answers. Many saints have passed through there. Be honest, do not pretend — and you will see that the faith that comes out the other side is more solid than one that has never doubted.
“Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.””
John 20:27
